Unfair fashion

I am not a blogger to talk about sweat shops or copycats. I don't ramble about stuff like that. I leave that to people who know more about it. You know what I find unfair?

I have rockin legs, but due to being a top heavy apple leggings and skinny jeans just don't work for me. Trust me I have tried. Over and over again. I so want to wear boots tucked into my jeans or leggings with a tunic but it just doesn't ever look right. follow me on pinterest barefootinboots

It's sad that i have both leggins and skinny jeans in my closet. It's unfair that i see all that I see all the cute (small chested in most cases) girls on Pinterest wearing my outfits!

The inhumanity of this trend being unattainable for my body shape. I have a little butt and strong sleek calves. (My thighs could be more toned but they wouldn't jiggle in the leggings.)

I was lucky enough to be approached by www.eshakti.com to choose an item to review.

After a lot of deliberation, I decided on a drapy black basic top. They have a LOT of cute dresses, but I am just not in the market for a dress right now. Currently I am digging the flowy, drapy tops and the one I chose fit the bill. It has a chameleon like ability to be dressed up with black or sparkly pants and a black belt or dressed down as I chose to with jeans and a cropped jacket.

I love that the neckline on this shirt adds some flare and design. This neckline, along with the drapy dolmain sleeve shape, makes this basic black shirt POP.

This shirt is super soft and comfortable. It is perfect for my current life and style. The people at eshakti.com were great to work with and I am so glad I got the chance to try their site out.

So it is supposed to be.... drumroll.... almost 50 degrees in the next week!

I am excited to pull out some cuffed jeans... and to dress my baby in lighter clothes.

What Mom? I don't HAVE to wear long sleeves and long pants and layers alll my life? I thought that was part of this!

I mean my baby was born in October. She only knows bundling up.

I can't WAIT to introduce her to grass and sun and warmth outside... in cute clothes!!

I have learned a lot about my clothing and minimalizing through being a mom.

I hope to talk more about that so stay tuned... and note I did NOT say minimalism. I am not there. I am just working my way through too much stuff, too many things, and too many interruptions to the life that I would rather lead.

Book Review - The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style vs How to Never Look Fat Again

I always have to have at LEAST one book to read. Normally I have more than one book started. I often have a novel for play and a "grown up" book to try to learn something. I think I have 6 books started right now?

Two or more on baby's first year, two on fashion, a stay at home mom book, and a diet recipe book. I also have several body after baby books and a few novels waiting in the wings.

I am by no means a professional but I have been reading since first grade and I spent many nights as a kid hiding my flashlight under a blanket reading until 3 am when I was told to go to bed at 10 pm. (I could get away with it in the summer, but in the winter my light reflected off the snow outside my window and my dad whose room was above mine would see the light and bust me.)

Let's compare the two fashion books I am reading right now.

"The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style" by Christine Schwab vs "How to Never Look Fat Again" by Charla Krupp

I started reading The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style a couple weeks ago. I had trouble getting into it and put it down.

I took it up again a couple days ago and was able to get into it (with skipping through). I think that this was definitely a borrow from the library read rather than a buy. I had trouble with the fact that it seemed like the author was saying if it doesn't look perfect cover it. (In the section on necks, she tells the reader to examine their neck closely and "if it looks wrinkled cover it". and similarly in a section on shoes she writes "Don't expose a foot that has broken veins, calluses, bunions, or squished or twisted toes. Leave the sandals on the shelf and buy a covered shoe.") If you are confident with your body as it is and you are just looking for tips on what to use to work around your "problem areas" then it might be fine. It might also be a helpful read if you aren't confident with your "problem areas" and you want to know how to cover them. I don't think it is right to make people feel as though they NEED to cover up what isn't perfect before going out in public. No one is perfect and no one should be made to feel like they need to be! (For more on body issues check out Sal at Already Pretty!)

This book contained sections on skin, health, mind, and makeup as well but I must admit that I skipped over a lot of that. I love fashion most the rest of it less. (Hey, I'm being honest here.)

I can't say I didn't learn anything from this book because I always learn something. There were some good tips and tricks. I just didn't agree with the way the author went about some of the writing.

Grading: So So... Read again-No... Buy-Definitely not

I really enjoyed the "How to Never Look Fat Again" book (and I haven't even finished it!). This is a book that I would recommend checking out from the library or even purchasing.

Love: Images of a "High Fat" outfit vs a "No Fat" outfit on the same person (REAL PEOPLE not skinny models)

Like: Specifics for each body part
          What to have in your closet to magnify your assets
          What to avoid to look "No Fat"
           More extreme options than clothing for a person who might be interested.
   Etc....

This book gives good examples and explanations for what it is talking about. It shows good comparisons in the images that it uses. This book has given me a lot to think about during my next closet cleaning. This book is something to refer to again and again when you are looking at the new trends coming out or when you are looking to add to your wardrobe. Are you unsure what is the best denim for your body? Are you interested in making your arms look thinner? Do you want to make your "badonkadonk" look smaller? Do you have too much bust for the average clothing? Other problems this book addresses: wide face, thick neck, broad shoulders, arm flap, big bust, muffin top, back fat, buddha belly, wide hips & thighs, big booty, heavy calves, and wide feet & ankles.

I haven't even gotten farther than the big booty and I am in love.

More things addressed in this book: Summer clothing, winter clothing, workout wear, the evening, and an overall view.

Do any of these things apply to you? I don't think any of us can say that we don't identify with at least ONE of these areas. I know that I have been impressed with the information and educated on arm flap, big bust, muffin top, back fat, buddha belly, AND wide thighs. I can't WAIT to see what they say about wide feet. And summer AND winter. More please!

I love that "How to Never Look Fat Again" reinforced a lot of things that I "just knew" with reasons for why an item or outfit is or isn't good for someone's body type and added to my knowledge and understanding of different body shapes and issues. I like how the book gives specific ideas for petites and size 14 and up.

Grading: Liked A Lot... Read Again- Probably... Buy- Possibly-Probably

I know that I am not the target market for The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style but I like to read books for two reasons: to learn and to get away from everyday life. I think I have read almost every fashion book that my local libraries have to offer. (I will have to start requesting them online from other Minnesota libraries as I don't plan to buy them. Especially without seeing them first.)

I would LOVE to work as a personal shopper or something similar in the fashion industry at some point and reading these books gives me more knowledge towards that goal.

Do you have any fashion books that you love and can't live without? Please tell me so I can look into them!

DIY - Plain Jane Jacket to Ombre Awesomeness

I used to wear this jacket from time to time but I never felt the love for it. I decided it was time to try to spice it up before I threw it out as I like the way it fits me. Girls with a large chest can have a difficult time finding jackets that fit well.

I threw it in a bucket of steaming hot water and some navy blue dye.

I stirred it up a few times, made sure it was set up, and left it sit.

Later that night, when I realized it was still in the dye, I took it out, rinsed it good, and threw it in the washer.

In an effort to keep the size and shape, I hung the jacket to dry and in the morning, this is what I had.

I wish that it was a little more ombre. It looked a little better before I washed it. There was more of an ombre effect from the dye bleeding up the fabric. It was also a little more striking before washing. The oatmeal color at the top of the jacket was cleaner looking than the blue that is there after it was washed.

I started with two different boots (one from each pair worn at the same time no less. I am CRAZY!), a pair of fake leather pants, some elastic, some thread, and my sewing machine.

The boots I started with:

Short Black Booties

Tall black boots with a wear mark

What I ended up with:

Tucked in to create another option.

I put the pants on, measured the height I wanted the faux boots to be, added an extra 1"-2" for a seam allowance, and cut.

I folded the pants down and then over again to create a pocket for the elastic to go through, and sewed it in place (leave a 1" opening to run the elastic through).

I measured the elastic around where I wanted it to be on my leg and made it a little bit smaller (to hold in place).

I ran the elastic through the pocket created for it, and sewed the ends of the elastic together. I then sewed the last opening for the elastic shut.

What I would rather have:

J. Crew - Who Knew?

Ok.. I should have known. The name you see plastered on the site is Jenna. Maybe it isn't me, but it should be, but a Jenna will know fashion right?

I would love to go to J. Crew and see if their sizing works for me. Being a large sized large breasted but not a plus sized girl is difficult. I don't fit in Lane Bryant sized clothes. They are too big but I am borderline too big for a lot of normal sized stores. Why is that? Where is the in between? Also.. will someone please tell me where the size 10.5 went in the shoe stores? Did it get eaten? Or stolen? What the h*ll happened to it? End rant... back to sizing issues. I LOVE the clothes at Express, the Limited, and the like. I do NOT fit in their largest sizes.. or at least not often. Sometimes when the cut is meant to be baggy it works for me but not often.

Does anyone wear J. Crew? Do you know how it fits? If it weren't a danger to my empty bank account, (Why is it that I can't go into a store without purchasing something?) I would stop into the nearest store and try things on. I walked past it in the mall I was in yesterday. Any store with sequins steals my heart right now!

And none of those choices have sequins!!! I am shocked as well! I am on a basics kick. Or basics with a flare and we can all admit that as much as we love sequins, they are a bear in the care department. I like to be able to wear things and if I have to hand wash or dry clean them it isn't going to happen right away or often so that in itself will limit my wearing. That is why I try to carefully select my sequins.

The word tissue tends to scare me in a tshirt. Especially postbaby. To me tissue clings to all the rolls that I don't want exposed. This is NOT a bakery people. You don't want to see that and I don't want to show it to you. Do you wear tissue tees? Do you shop at J. Crew?

Disco Dancing... Shoes - DIY

Yes... My name is Jenna and I am addicted to shoes. I never have to worry about them fitting over my chest. Or my bottom being too small. (Yes I have no butt and my bottom is too SMALL for things. I think it makes up for my generous extra on top.)

Shoes fit. They just fit... yes they can be narrow or wide and yes they can be the wrong size but it is different then when clothes don't fit.

I saw these shoes from Christian Louboutin.

And of course I wanted them but not the $1400 or something price tag.

So I put a bottle of glitter, some modge podge, an old disco ball, some E6000 and a pair of thrifted Merona shoes to work.

What did I find???

Some sparkly fun shoes. Apparently these are blogger shoes. By that I mean shoes only a blogger can appreciate. Have you noticed that you are willing to wear crazier things since you joined the blogger world? I know that I wear things that I wouldn't have worn before I started reading other fashion blogs. Seeing other people wearing more outrageous things makes it seem more normal for my everyday life.

Magazines and Busty Girls

I am starting to think that no one that works at a fashion magazine is busty. (I think the article that triggered this rant was about holiday dresses in a recent Lucky issue. Not that they are the only ones. And not that I don't like Lucky because I do. Check them out. ) Why would they tell a busty girl to wear strapless anything otherwise?? I mean there are ALWAYS exceptions as there aren't RULES anymore. (IMO) But large breasted girls don't suggest strapless to other large breasted girls.

Big busts and strapless means a lot of tugging, pulling, readjusting, and sometimes duct tape. (I wouldn't suggest the duct tape.) Trust me I know. I have tried strapless bras.. semi EXPENSIVE ones even to no avail. It is hard to even FIND a strapless bra in my size without ordering online and I mean COME ON clothes are hard enough to order online and they have a LITTLE forgiveness sizewise. (I don't often succeed with blind online ordering either.)

I have been reading the interviews over here from the Project 333 people.

How much do we need to live with?

I am not saying that I am in line with the Project 333 people because I am not. I am just looking into the way what they are doing is affecting my thinking and life. I have mad respect for those who can and do live with 33 items.

I have been talking and thinking lately about how many things we need in our lives. As a new mom, I realize that most of my time is going to taking care of my little girl. I also realize that I spend A LOT of time putting things away.

My closet... minimal... NO!

Due to breastfeeding, I have been limiting my wardrobe quite severely. I have so many items that I love that I don't want to ruin. In doing this, I am realizing how many items I have that I don't even wear and how many items I have built up as a work wardrobe. I realize that a lot of people cross items into work/casual/play categories and I do this somewhat but at the same time, I don't have much need for dress pants when I am not working. I also can't normally get away with jeans in my work life. I will admit that I am a denim girl at heart. If I had the opportunity, I would live in denim 80-90 percent of the time. In the summer I need some shorts (I am not as in love with jeans shorts) and there are a few days here and there where I want to dress up a bit more but the majority of the time I don't wear anything other than my jeans. To me, that means that I should look into downsizing the other non denim clothes in my life (for now, as I am not working).
At some point I am sure I will go back to work, so my question is, do I keep said dress clothes? I apparently don't buy too many FAD clothes as most of the dressy clothes that I have are already several years old. I have pants that I purchased in high school that I still wore for work this last year. Do I keep them? Sell them? Store them? Do I try the box them up out of sight for a certain amount of time and see if I need them?

I have been feeling really good about getting rid of the excess items in my life. I have a LONG way to go and I don't think I will ever have a clutter free life. (I love to many creative outlet hobbies.) If I were honest about it though, I could get rid of a lot of hobby items too as they don't get the love that they should either. Once a year for a pair of ski boots? Once a year for a baseball bat? A volleyball? They sit in a bright red garbage can in the garage the rest of the time. I am going to call them decoration. My husband calls them, "in the way".

Part of this declutter thinking has lead me to more thoughts about what I purchase... I will be posting about this soon.

What is one accessory that you would like to switch up to fit your style but it gets too expensive?

Prescription glasses of course! Those of us who are a little blind, moi, love to have options for those days when we don't want to wear our contacts. I have options in my contacts (brown or brilliant blue) why not my glasses. Now I am able to add more style to my necessary accessories by changing out my specs to go with my mood. This is great since I have been spending more time in my glasses as a new mom. I love to be a little bit rocker, a little bit casual, a little bit sparkly, and a little bit redneck/tomboy in my style among other things. (Just to clarify a bit - redneck equals my rubber boots... real rubber ones not the Hunter ones or the Burberry ones, jeans, Cabella's fleece, camo gloves, Jeep baby paraphernalia, Carhart hat, camo/orange diaper bag.)

I will admit that I have several items from American Eagle that I have had for YEARS...

...my winter coat.

A teal and blue plaid hooded bundle of wool goodness... which is dry clean only and I spilled ketchup on this weekend. Thankfully not the carpet in my truck but come on!

My FAVORITE pair of jeans. I have purchased this pair again on ebay because they don't sell it again. As I am wearing both of those pairs out (holes galore) I need to find me another pair (and the money to buy them!)

Three more of my semi favorite pairs of jeans. Yes out of 20-30+ pairs of jeans I own about 4-5 pairs of AE jeans. I don't think I own more than 2 of any other brand.

A tshirt that I thrifted, a bracelet and a sweatshirt that I was gifted round out my AE love items that have survived YEARS!

Several months ago, I won a rather significant gift card via a giveaway on Fashion Therapist's blog.
If you aren't familiar with her, you should go check out her site. She is one fashionable lady.

When I won the gift card, I was pregnant so I wasn't able to properly spend the money. I did scratch my shopping itch mid pregnancy by ordering two items from a super clearance section of the Talbots website.

I purchased a button down shirt and a terry dress. Both of these items were pretty basic but they filled a need in my closet (really they scratched the shopping itch. I have yet to wear them, although I have yet to return to most of my weardrobe post pregnancy. The fit is almost there, but I don't want to wreck anything.)

Last weekend, I decided it was time to look into spending my gift card. I looked up the nearest store and headed there with my husband and little girl. (Her FIRST trip to the mall... WAHOO!!!)

After wandering the store to get back into the shopping swing, I took a few items into the dressing room. I must admit, nothing was fitting the way I wanted it to. After a little bit more wandering, I took a few more items into the dressing room.

This is where I have been lately. Meet my little girl.

Does anyone else have a problem with skinny jeans?
Let me elaborate. Does anyone else have a problem with skinny jeans on THEM!

I love to see the trend on all the cute little girls. Ok, not even the little girls. Mostly on the girls that aren't top heavy. Being an apple shape with most of my weight is in my lovely ladies on the top half, I have found that I am not able to make skinny jeans work for me in a way that I am happy with. I have tried them with heels, flats, tucked into boots, and many other ways. I just don't think they do anything for me. (I think this is the reason I struggle with leggings as well.)

I feel massive amounts of frustration in this as I would LOVE to be able to find a way to pull off this trend. I just don't see it happening. I have decided to sell my worn once? twice? Seven 4 All Mankind distressed skinny jeans. I will be posting them in my closet shop soon.

I will be trying to work more outfits with STRAIGHT jeans. I think that is as close as I can work with. I hope to make straight jeans work as I would like to add a pair of boots to my closet soon. (This is a big deal to me as I am a BOOTCUT girl. I think most if not all of my jeans are bootcuts.)

Lately, I am enjoying feeling and looking at my clothes, but I refuse to wear most of my good stuff. I don't want to get spit up and poo on them. (Newborn in the house.) I don't want to stretch them out trying to breastfeed. I just can't imagine dirtying some of the items in my closet. I am hoping that I grow out of this at some point. Or I will not be wearing my clothes that I LOVE very often for the next like 5-7 months. UH OH! That means like 12 months of hibernation for some of my favorite pieces.
Why does this happen? I feel that the reason is this fashion that goes in and out so quickly. By the time I buy a piece and wear it long enough to realize that I LOVE said piece and would like to purchase another of the same item as a backup/spare piece it is already not for sale. That is sad because a lot of the pieces that I wear are pretty basic. I mean I have some stand out items (I hope to get a post on them and one on MY basics soon.) but most of my pieces aren't THAT expensive. I don't own any designer pieces but I LOVE the pieces that I have.

At times like these, I am glad that I don't do extreme purges of my closet as I can wear some of the items that I consider throw away pieces. Pieces that although nice and wearable, I don't LOVE so if I wreck them I am not going to shed tears.

At the same time, I am trying to go through my house/closet and purge some of the items that I don't love/need/want. I hate that I spend so much of my time putting things back in their places or trying to find places for items. I would like to be able to do a basic clean up and be done. That makes me wish that I had a minimal approach to my closet and life. NOT SO!

Can't win for trying right?

I am trying to finish up some projects that I am working on. I made my husband 2 shirts. He really has like 3 tshirts that are ok to be worn in public. The rest are NOT ok. Holey worn out garbage. Ick!

One is an iron on transfer that I created the design for in Photoshop. The other is some paint in a cut out freezer paper design. Now I have two more shirts to make for him. What's up next in tshirt design???

I also have a few ideas for onsie designs for baby girl! Those will be out soon.

As for what I am wearing, shorts and a tank top with bare feet or flip flops. Exciting!

Life Changes and Priority Changes

I am having the blogger block. Part of the problem is that most of my wardrobe is limited to what fits right now and a lot of the clothes that I thought would fit longer haven't. Although I guess at 7 months pregnant I am doing all right to have made it this far. I have been having a difficult time working through my wardrobe without half of my favorite items. I know we all have favorite items, but some people talk about how they go through their closet often and they get rid of a lot of items. I must admit that although I get rid of a lot of semi recent items, there are MANY items in my closet that I have lived with for years. I am talking more than 10 years. Does that make it a basic? I miss my jeans!!! I have a few pairs that are still hanging in there... better than the pairs of maternity jeans that I have tried. Full panel, YUCK. Demi panel, GRRRR!!! Adjustable backed pants... diaper look alikes AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I have learned to appreciate the body that I used to have. You know when you think you are fat and then you get fat and you see that you were pretty skinny compared to what you are now... that is where I am.

One thing that I have come to appreciate, is a clean, simplified house. In an attempt to get things put together before "Fish" arrives, I have been trying to get rid of things and simplify what I am keeping and organizing the rest. This has been a fun process but at the moment I feel like it is a a stand still. I have gotten rid of and organized a lot but there is so much more I want to tackle and I just can't get it taken care of. Some of the projects are daunting and some of the projects are just being stubborn. (Maybe I am?)

Each day I get up (at whatever time as I am not working... not a good thing either) and I attempt to get something done. Between the hot weather, the good books, the awesome blogs, my laziness, lack of energy, and the overwhelming amount of projects that I have waiting I just don't seem to get much done.

I invited my mom to hang out next week (hubby is out of town for a couple days for work.) hopefully she and I can tackle some of the crafty projects that I want to get done so that I have less on my to do list!

I just want to go thrifting!!!!

Anyone want to come help me weed the losers out of my closet and make it more ME! I try to do this all the time but I can't break the strings.

I got my haircut the other day. I was sooo excited to get my hair cut until they called me 2 hours before my appt to tell me that my hairstylist quit. I was soooo nervous. Someone else cut my hair and it looks fine but I think my stylist would have gotten it closer to what I was looking for.

I am so glad that a few pairs of my old jeans semi fit. I can't find maternity clothes that work for me. Part of the problem is that the weather is HOT! I am not good with high temperatures and I know that my body is not regulating temperature well at all.

Most of my clothes lately include a Target maternity tank (which I went to get a few more of and they are all out of!) and a few pairs of shorts that are several sizes larger than my normal size.

When the weather cools off a little bit, I will have a few more shirts to add into the mix. Now if only I could find some AFFORDABLE shorts and jeans that don't expect you to have a huge butt!

How is a person supposed to dress this foreign body! These are my h&m maternity capris, be mine matenity tank, target hat, target glasses, target flip flops, and a kensie pretty drapey top thing. Love the technical terms?

Lovely bag you ask? Made by my wonderful mother. This might be one of my favorite items she has made for me. I love it. I love re style, size, shape, colors (red inside), everything!

Anybody have any tips for not looking top heavy while trying not to sweat to death or in my case come close to passing out from heat? I feel like I look like a candied apple on a stick.

I have had good luck with Payless shoes when I take my time purchasing them. My only complaint is that they don't always have alot of selection in my size.

To combat that, they do have a nice online selection with $5.99 shipping.

These are some fun shoes... the foldover effect that I like along with hot heels, black rocker vibe. Too bad I don't need any heels right now as my back won't allow much use of them.

I have been looking for sandals like these. I want something more than flip flops but easy to walk in and comfortable. (I can walk days in flip flops.) Every time I find a pair of sandals such as these that I need to try on one of a few things shows up. 1) I HATE that super slippery no traction on top or bottom of these shoes. If your shoes get the LEAST bit wet, you can't walk in them! 2) Most of these shoes look really cute on people with long thin feet. I don't think that I have OVERLY wide feet but they are in proportion with the rest of my athletic at best overweight at worst body. My feet seem to hang over the sides of these shoes most of the time. 3) Back to the wide feet thing, IF my feet fit in the shoes, the straps are often uncomfortable.
I have NOT given up on trying to find a pair of sandals in this catagory, but I do not forsee being able to purchase them online site unseen without a generous return policy.

HOT! These shoes are so damn HOT! I would love to own a piece of Rock and Republic attire. These shoes would fit that craving and desire.

Smart. These shoes are not HOT or FUN or any of those adjectives. These shoes would be the smart choice. Since I cannot say that I LOVE them for what I am looking for, I will continue on with my $7 Target Medallion flip flops.

What do you do for sandals in the summer? What do you wear when you can't, don't, or WON'T wear heels? (Not to be mean, but to those of you who say, " Oh I can't wear heels." Unless you have a medical reason or something similiar, please don't say that you can't wear heels. I am a firm believer that given the correct shoe/heel/heel height, EVERYONE (barring said medical reasoning) can wear heels. I did not start wearing heels until a couple years ago. I then found a pair of shoes in the correct heel height (like 4"!!!!) and was able to walk in them no problem! They are even COMFORTABLE! And... I paid $5 for them. Heels can be done... it just takes time, effort, and a willingness for trial and error.)

Dressing down

This was before I left my job. I wore this dress to be comfortable. Since I grew up in an area where very few people ever wear dresses, that makes ANY dress dressy in my book. I know there are different levels of dressy but with a position like i was in, a dress was dressy enough. (By the end of the day, I slid jeans on underneath so I could work in the warehouse. Be prepared for anything right?)
A cami covered the cleavage that made this dress a little low cut for the office.
I have been living in this wrap cardigan since I started showing. I feel like I am in the "is she or isn't she" stage and I like to be able to put on this wrap and feel comfortable. I love my growing bump, but it is hard to change a life of habits in a couple months. I have always hidden my stomach as it is my "trouble spot".

Flip flops are life right now! I am having trouble wearing heels due to my back but I can't find any flat sandals that work for me. Most of the really cute sandals... AND there are LOTS out there... are too narrow, too slippery, too tight for my feet. (I went to DSW yesterday with a coupon in hand. I think I tried on MOST of the sandals in the store that were semi dressy, and none of them did what I needed them to. SAD!)

Maternity Clothes

I hate maternity clothes. I have been trying to find stuff that I like and can wear. I LOVE Target maternity tanks tops and some of their shirts, but I don't like ANYTHING for pants. I have a pair or two that I am struggling through with but I also combine that with some of the bands and some of the belt trick items. Nothing works for me otherwise. What do you do at 8 and 9 months????

So my computer crashed, work stinks, the weather is gorgeous, and apparently I am "nesting". I just want to go around my house and clean everything up. I want to go through things and get rid of them. I want to finish up projects that I started. I want to get things ready for baby. Even though SHE isn't due until October. I just know that I will not get any of the things done that I want to and then I will lose my motivation. That just makes me want to cry.

I have pictures to share when my computer is running again but I am trying not to spend money so a crashed computer is putting a kabosh on a lot of things!!!!!!!

Passionate Fashion - Last In"vest"ment

I am thinking that this might be one of the last times if not the last time I can get away with the vest. It does not seem to gel well with the belly. I love the colors of teal, khakis and black together. These shoes... are the best.... don't you think sis? These are the shoes that I found at payless YEARS ago before I got into fashion. I tried them on and LOVED them but my mother and sister talked me out of them. (This was before I got more confident in my style and clothing choices.) I thrifted these shoes a while back and I love wearing my couch shoes! (Apparently that is what they remind my mother and sister of...couch upholstery.)

I love that a vest and khakis (and cardigan!) would normally look preppy but with the addition of the necklace, shoes, and my spiky hair do, they fit more into my slightly rockerish style.

I have been struggling a lot with my style lately. I LOVE thrifting and getting all the fun items and making them work in my waredrobe but at the same time, a part of me wishes that I had less clothing that was more streamlined and more my style. If I like to wear black dress pants with a nice shirt combo (would rather wear jeans but that isn't my choice) does that make my "style" boring to other fashion people? A big part of me wants to try all the fun skirts and dresses and all the other fun items, but a large part of me just wants nice basics and a few items with pizzazz to top them.

How do you feel about your overflowing... or not closets? Do you have the same love hate relationship?

How would you describe my style? Let me know!

I guess now is not the time to make huge changes to my everyday waredrobe as I am not wearing most of it, but at the same time being pregnant is like building a capsule wardrobe.

On a pregnancy note, one of my trouble areas has ALWAYS been my stomach. This is making finding shirts a little bit easier in my current waredrobe. Crazy how that is working for me.

Things I need to find:

Jeans (Jeans are my comfort blanket. A GREAT pair of jeans is a necessity for me!)

Tank Tops - Target has a great style of tank tops that works slick for me. They just don't have a ton of color options. I will be picking up more of those though.

BRAS!

Honestly, other than that, I have what I need for now. I just enjoy mixing in new items.

I am scared by some of the items that people have shared with me. They are so not MY style and when I put them on, I feel sick... (same thing I always do when I get uncomfortable)

P.S. A lady at work asked me to stop so she could "see what was going on with my pants". (Basic black pants seen above.) The only thing going on with them was that I had them rolled over at the top to accomodate said belly. It wasn't like she could see that under my SHIRTS plural. WHY??? Why be mean to the pregnant chick?

What to do with the stress in your life... window shop!

I am totally in baby mode lately. Partially because I am constantly looking for items to add to my wardrobe. I am just getting round to me but I think the public thinks I am getting pudgy. Totally fine with me. I am not ready to be over encumbered by a bump. It will be here soon enough and take a while to go away. (I don't mean that harsh. I am SUPER excited but I am not good at sharing my body.)

So yesterday, I went into Hot Mama. A great store if you have the money. But it can still be hard to justify on maternity clothes. I mean I totally want the Serfontaine Jeans Suprima Atomic in Atomic coloring. I tried them on and they were AWESOME! Problem was that they were a) $198 (OUCH!) That's more than I have paid on my DAILY wear jeans... although not by much. b) a plus and a minus, they didn't have my size. I would have needed a 31. A plus because I didn't buy them. A minus because I WOULD HAVE. (OOOPS!!!) I found these since shopping online (Belly Dance Maternity)... they are on sale for $50. I SOOOOO want to buy them... ALAS husband won't let me. I mean come on... that isn't much more than a jean from TARGET! (Which I don't love!)

Other things on my wishlist for today? A damn bra! I have been wearing the same one for a couple weeks. It is the ONLY one that is comfortable. Bad!!!! If you can't tell, it was really windy this day. I VERY carefully set my tripod up in a sheltered area and crossed my fingers that my LOVELY camera would not hit the ground. I would CRY!

I put the hat on the cover my wind hair... you believed that didn't you? I don't have enough hair to need a hat for wind proofing! Water proofing maybe.

How do you dress when you don't know yourself. I am enjoying being pregnant but I wish I could wear my jeans and be comfortable. ( I still fit in my jeans or at least I can make them work. I am not large enough for maternity pants and due to my lack of ass, I am not sure I will be. I don't want to spend a ton of money on clothes that I don't like and won't be comfortable in. Especially not when I could make do with what I own if there weren't limitations on my wardrobe.) I am not me in dress pants as it is but right now I HATE the feeling that I am not myself.

Part of my problem is that I am not comfortable with my life right now. And when I say life, I mean my job environment. I spend my day waiting to be sniped at and wondering which direction it will come from next. I thought this was going to be my dream job, but I have to say that nothing about this job is what I thought it would be. I am not doing what I was hired to do. I am not treated the way I thought I would be... or SHOULD be. I feel so lost right now in so many ways.

You know what I want to do... take a vacation (since I can't quit).. I want to go somewhere. If I can't do that, I want to hang out at home and organize and be creative.

Notice anything different? Well first thing would be that I CHOPPED my hair. I have always wanted to be able to spike my hair. I LOVE PINK! Now I am able to spike it... sorta! I am so glad I did it as I always wanted to do it but I am thinking I will be growing my hair out again after this.

Second to notice... notice a belly? It's not really prominent but its there. My husband and I are expecting our first baby!

How can you beat a jacket this SOFT! I will admit it. I have not been putting a lot of thought into my clothes lately. I have just been putting on what feels good, fits, and doesn't take a lot of thought and effort.

I don't want constricting clothing. I have been trying new combinations and working through my closet. I am making sure to wear some of my favorite clothes.

In not putting a lot of thought into my clothing, I have come up with different ways to wear the same clothes. It is weird how NOT thinking about clothes makes me go out of my box.

Dressy enough for work but ready for play. I am sooo ready for some play. I had to use my "vacation" time due to being sick TWICE this year. Swine FLU! I have been too lazy to take pictures every day. And when I have been taking pictures, I am too lazy to load them.

I am enjoying wearing items of clothing without long sleeves. I am enjoying the warmer weather. I LOVE how comfortable spring clothes are. Summer is GREAT but you can't always wear the clothes that you want because it is too warm. Winter you have to layer on too many items of clothing.

I have to say that I LOVE Foxcroft button downs. I am now the proud owner of 4 of them. I purchased two full price. A mind boggling price of more than $40 but less than $60 each. I have a hard time finding button downs that work for my bust (and am WAY to lazy to find and use a tailor) so I was willing to pay. I have since thrifted a blue striped one and this green striped one. I love them. I never have to iron them.

As you can tell, a lot of these pictures are rather old (the long hair should be the giveaway). I will try to be better about taking some pictures since it is lighter later and a warm spell of temps in the high 20's and 30's for this week.

Sorry for being MIA lately. I have hit the winter wall block.

I am sick of standing outside as soon as I get home to try to get pictures before dark and before I freeze.

I am sick of wearing 50 layers just to TRY to be warm at work.

What can I say? A girl needs a little sparkle in her life. Why not have a stripe of it down your sleeves and across your collar bone. This sure does distract from my "problem areas". I know that I am staring at the sparkles!

I started the day off with one scarf. At the very last minute before leaving for work, I grabbed the second scarf. At work I decided to wrap the two scarves together and tuck the ends in.

About half way through the day, I was sooo sick of adjusting my pants. (I forgot a belt and I can't wear pants without a belt. My shape makes me do it!) I decided to thread one of the scarves through my belt loops and wear it as a belt! HURRAY for not having to pull my pants up every two seconds!

I am sad that I forgot to take pictures of my creative solution. This shirt is very draping. I tried to layer a long sleever shirt under it for warmth but it made the shirt look horrible. I decided to be creative in my quest for warmth. I found an old blue henley and I continued to cut off the sleeves. I used those sleeves as arm warmers for my time at work. (It is so cold at work no matter what!)

My husband is awesome. I have been wanting a full length mirror forever. I mean how's a girl supposed to get dressed in a teeny tiny target mirror? I mean come on, I'm a big girl. I need more. I have been keeping my eyes open for a while but nothing has jumped out at me. A couple weeks ago, I almost pulled the trigger on a mirror from west elm on my husband's insistence that it would be my birthday present. The mirror I was looking at was on sale and free shipping but I held back. I just wasn't sure. When I saw this one.... It was out of my price range but I posted it on my blog as I loved it anyway.

There I sat with no mirror again. Fast forward to today when my scheming husband said we should go to Olive Garden for lunch. Who am I to say no to that? What i didn't get is why he picked an one so far from home?

Because west elm was a block away and he had put a hold on MY mirror as my bday present. All I has to do was okay it in person. Yay!

I found this star sweatshirt at the Goodwill and I fell in love. It is fun pink, white, and purple stars. I found this orange sweatshirt at a different thrift store a couple days later. I LOVE how comfortable it is. I love that it looks like a soft orange jacket or a casual cardigan. Match a couple of sweatshirts (for warmth) with a pair of nice looking trousers and off to work I go.

I SOOO want to try the trend of jean shorts with tights but I don't wear anything that chilly on weekends. (Dog walking, errands, and everything else is not condusive to jean shorts in a MN winter.

I guess I will have to do a play time this weekend and try it out... and then change back into whatever jeans and sweatshirt I was wearing previously.

We'll see.

I have been trying to fight the urge to dress in a pants and shirt rut. I love to be able to throw on a nice shirt and pants and be off and ready. I love the ease of dressing and the ease of use during the day.

Lately I have been pondering my overstuffed to the gills closet and how long it takes me to get dressed each day. I have been doing a lot of thinking about needing/wanting things and how much use they get. I have been going over how much I like the thrill of the hunt and bringing new items into my life and closet for the game of getting dressed each day.

Should I continue on this path? I love shopping and I like getting dressed each day but it has been causing me a lot of stress lately. I want to wear clothes in a way that doesn't feel boring but doesn't consume me to come up with. I don't want to have to give up shopping and dressing but I don't want it to become work either. I REALLY want to find my style, dress chic and fun, clean out my closet, but continue to bring in inexpensive finds through thrifting.

Do you ever feel like keeping a closet organized is a full time job? Do you ever feel the urge to slim down the options and streamline your closet and by default your life?

I have cleaned my closet twice lately and I still feel like I haven't started. I cleared out most of the items that I wasn't feeling and I packed them into a container to be relooked at in a few days, weeks, or months. TBD

Monotone outfits can definitely be a great building block as well as a staple in your wardrobe.

I like the ability to create a simple outfit of basic black and build upon that with scarves, sweaters, and vests to create a basic yet chic outfit to face the day in.

Do you need a reason to dress up? Do you dress for yourself or everyone else? I find that I dress for me because I can't leave the house in something that I don't love. I may want other people to like what I wear but I don't wear something only because someone else might like it.

I am struggling with dressing again. This time it isn't about having to wear suits. My new conundrum is to dress for the weather, look nice for work, dress for the temperature inside (cold), and dress for all possibilities of work. I might end up lugging goods in the warehouse. I might be shooting pictures outside in 0 degree F weather. (Or worse.) I might be sitting at my desk in 50 degree weather. I never know what I am going to be doing.

I want to dress up for work but it doesn't seem right.

My dreams right now? To not have to worry about work, what to wear to work, money, owning two houses.... anyone want to buy a northern getaway? I don't want to worry about the things that I want but can't seem to have. I don't want to think about why I don't seem to ever measure up.

I think I need a tattoo, a hair cut, new color, and a piercing.

Staying warm and fashionable has been about one thing lately. Layers. I have plenty of jackets and plenty of short sleeve shirts but layering items are a bit lacking in my closet. I have been working on solving my layering issues. I don't want my layers to create bulk that I don't need. Right?

My solution? Using a lot of thin layers to keep toasty warm.

A secret to this whole layering thing. A warm fuzzy sweater... looks like the same warm fuzzy sweater. Three layers of shirts can be reworn and remixed without being as noticeable!

Boy did I hit it good at Goodwill today. I needed to shop and Goodwill fulfills the need. Never really cheap for me but I get a lot and I don't go all that often. I have the patience for the hunt.

I enjoy the thrill of the find at a thrift store or marshall's more than the mall. Not that the mall doesn't have it's own time and place, because it does.

I guess I will get back to it. (I am sitting in the garage at a friend's house "helping" fix my atv. I will admit, I am fashionable but not really mechanical. We all has our callings and our talents.

are the best pictures ever! Maybe not the best pictures ever, but my husband got some excellent pictures of me and the sunset. The sunset threw such gorgeous colors onto me, my outfit, and the house. Plus the sunset accessorized with my outfit. Matching my pink tank top and adding some needed color to my black outfit.

I am so proud of the fact that I dressed up for New Years Eve Day. Unfortunately the heat was out on my end of the office building (I was the only one ON that end said day) The thermostat read a high of 57 most of the day. Not HORRIBLE when the cold air wasn't blowing on me. BRRR!!! Not the correct day for a skirt. Luckily, I was warm enough with my tall boots and socks. No one in the office saw my outfit because I never took off my jacket. GRRR!!! This cold weather is doing two things. 1. Teaching me to layer better. 2. Making me dream of dressing for WARM WEATHER!

As you can see, I am a slacker when it comes to weekends and holidays. I wear sweatshirts and jeans (Not often sweatpants). If I have no plans I get lazy.

My excuse's are numerous:
1. It is easier to walk the dog in MN winters without having to change or freeze each time I want to go out.
2. My husband and I tend to run errands or hang out doing stuff not conducive to cute outfits.
3. I don't like to use my work clothes for weekends when it seems like a waste that no one sees or chancing them getting wrecked, etc...
4. When I visit home, I don't bring much more than jeans and sweatshirts because I don't end up wearing anything other than that unless we are going out. (Not often.)

If you ask J, my niece, where she got her clothes she will tell you, " from da trift tore." with that know it all 3 year old tone. She knows!!!!

Layers, layers, that's the name of this new game I am attempting to play. I have played a lot of sports and learned the strategies of each. That seems easy compared to this new strategy of layering in this game I like to call Fashion... or at least my sorry attempt at fashion.

Have you ever helped someone with a different body type than your own pick out clothes? I like to think of it as dressing a doll. My own life size Barbie at whatever the person's everyday proportions.

I love to help other people pick out clothes. I love to see my fashion ideas work for someone else. More often it is more fun to dress someone else because we don't worry about the hangups that we have when we are dressing our perceived bodies and our perceived "style".

Note of depression - Found a GORGEOUS pair of Softt Boots at Nordstrom's Rack in my size, in an awesome color.... pulled them on and felt the glorious Softt softness (goodness?). Slide the zipper up, up, up... snag.... pull... slip a little... pulllllllll.... I got those boots zipped and adored them in the mirror. Then I cried when I unzipped them and hung them back up. THOSE BUGGERS WERE TIGHT! I was afraid to contract my calf muscles (MOVE) due to the constraints of the circumfrence of the boots. Yep... it happened. Too narrow in the calves made me put those gorgeous, comfortable, perfect boots back. (Tear)

I am finding it hard to get dressed in the winter. I don't have enough long sleeve warm clothes for work. I have been trying to do more layering instead of wearing on heavy layer.
It is hard to layer without layering items!

I must admit that I have always loved sleek and chic. Less pieces, less clutter, cleaner. Lately the pictures that inspire me are more layering and floaty and flowing.

Uh oh... change in inspiration means.. wardrobe updates. BAD!

Also Winter, I miss my heels. It is hard to wear them in your snow. I don't want to fall and hurt my ankle again!

Hope you like seeing lots of my boots! Snow makes them necessary.
(PS... a trip to Nordstroms Rack = a new pair of boots and a want to go back for more shoes, without husband to tell me, "You have more than enough shoes."

I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and I hope that everyone has HUGE plans for New Year's. I don't as usual.... sad.. but true. I am boring even though I wish I weren't.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I am still out here.

I have been wearing some semi cute outfits (WAY cute for me!) but do to time constraints... and being stuck at work for an extra 1.5 hours on Wednesday(was supposed to be heading to the rents house and the weather was starting to get bad!!!)

I am going to try to get back into the swing of things but I must admit that work is hampering my blog in so many ways......

#1 It is COLD in my office most days. Like I am a short sleeve shirt girl but I need a tank, tee, long sleeve tee, and a sweatshirt or sweater cold. This is not conducive to cuteness in my closet!!!!

#2 I am not soo happy with some things in my work... this makes me in turn not soo happy in my life.... which makes me less likely to dress cute.

#3 Some of my work is in a DIRTY environment. I mean I have worked in dirty before (jeans being ok) but this is a dirty environment that I am supposed to be presentable in. I HATE worrying about my clothes. I hate getting my nice clothes dirty.

#4 Some of my work is outdoors. BRRRRR!!!!!!!!

#5 I want to wear some fun stuff. I want to dress in jeans for a lot of my cute outfits but I can't wear jeans 90% of the time and then the rest of the time I just want a sweatshirt to (warm up, relax, walk the dog, casual things up).

#6 I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love a little sparkle and shine in my life. I am learning that my winter wardrobe is blah. There are a lot of dark colors and not enough long sleeves. I can't win. Last year I was looking for more blazers for suits. This year I would love to have more sweaters for warmth and yet being casual comfort.

My new difficulties in dress include:
Dressing in nice clothes for marketing but junky clothes for sales work in the back rooms... DUSTY DUSTY backrooms
Dressing in nice clothes and climbing in and out of cars and around them to take pictures
Dressing for indoors and out in hot and cold weather
A cold, cold office

Boy, did I have it easy two years ago. I could wear jeans every day. I could wear nicer clothes when I wanted... most of the time. My office wasn't horribly warm or cold.

I love how putting together a black sweater with a black skirt isn't boring when you add a turquoise scarf, gray tights, and my zippered peeptoe platforms.

I must admit this is one of the first times I wore my fun shoes without covering them up with pants legs. I tend to wear the shoes but not let everyone see them. My little secret.

One guy saw my shoes and told me that he LOVED them. He said they were, "quite the shoe."

It was funny to see this guys reaction to my shoes. I mean I had never even met this guy, he did NOT look like a shoe or fashion liker much less lover, and he was very excited about the shoes.

Maybe that helps explain that even my husband said he likes them. I thought he was just humoring me. Maybe he does like them... even a little. I LOVE THEM!

Boot Lust Review & New Lust

These are my expensive boots that I was lusting about in my previous boot lust post.

My awesome husband allowed me to order both pairs so I could choose my favorite as my Christmas present. I was super excited to order the boots and couldn't wait for them to arrive. Endless.com was awesome as they were having a sale and they have the awesome free shipping and free returns.

Sadly, I needed the shipping both ways.

I had been lusting after the grayish boots (in black... not in my size) for quite a while. At more than $400 I was not going to purchase them. The brown boots were listed at more than $200 or $300 which is out of my price range as well. My sister found out that endless.com was having a sale and helped me talk my husband into a GREAT Christmas present.

I had a HARD time pressing the order button on a basket this expensive, but I was still super excited for them to appear at my door!

After trying both of the boots on, I decided that although I like the gray boots, I didn't like them $250 + love. They would have been my boots to keep for $80-$120 but that was it. I mean they were real leather which was awesome but I didn't feel that I loved them enough to worry about them constantly and wear daily. They were a bit tight around the calf for me. They were ok without jeans but even with leggings they were a bit tight. Still loved them, just not like a mother should love her child that she will feel the need to constantly watch over and never let them out of her sight.

(The brown pair was just too small.)

As sad as it was, I sent them down the road. Thanks Endless for your awesome service. Now can you send me these boots in a size 10 or 11?

After having a bad day today, I am having a very hard time not shopping. Shopping makes me feel better.

I have a great husband, and an awesome dog. We have a nice house and I get to drive a nice truck.

It's not helping that I feel a very strong... almost overpowering urge to have a pair of knee high boots.. thigh highs would be fun.... BOOTSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warm feet and great outfits. Ahhhhh the dreams.....
